The San Bernardino Forestry Challenge Session 1 had 134 students from 14 schools in attendance. The focus topic was Next Steps in Reforestation at Hubert Eaton Scout Reservation. Students collected data in two units undergoing reforestation and determined what next steps will lead to that goal, including planting more trees and controlling brush, and setting up a budget for that work.

The results below are out of a possible 250 points:

  • First Place:  Palisades Charter High School Team #13, 205.7 points
  • Second Place:  Benjamin Franklin High School Team #25, 203.8 points
  • Third Place:  Palisades Charter High School Team #14, 197.2 points
  • Fourth Place:  John F. Kennedy High School Team #26, 196.8 points
  • Fifth Place:  Palisades Charter High School Team #12, 193.3 points

Norwalk won the Pacing Contest, breaking a tie via pace off with Alta Vista in second and Benjamin Franklin coming in third.

Other schools at the Challenge were: Alessandro High School, Channel Islands High School, Eleanor Roosevelt Community Learning Center, La Mirada High School, Littlerock high School, North County Trade Tech, Panorama High School, Sequoia High School, and Vista High School
