The El Dorado Forestry Challenge was the largest event of the season, with 139 students and 29 teachers/chaperones from 17 schools in attendance. The focus topic was the Wells Preserve Restoration Project. Students collected data at the American River Conservancy’s Wells Preserve near Somerset to assess its health and recommended actions to restore its ecological function to contribute to the health of the Cosumnes River watershed.
The results below are out of a possible 250 points:
- First Place: Foresthill High School Team 12 – 226.4 Points.
- Second Place: Golden Sierra High School Team 6 – 223.8 Points
- Third Place: Mira Loma High School Team 26 – 221.3 Points
- Fourth Place: El Dorado High School Team 3 – 215.3 Points
- Fifth Place: Golden Sierra High School Team 7 – 214.5 Points
Piedmont High School won the Pacing Contest with a pace of 65’5″ (7 inch deviation). Golden Sierra and Calero tied for second, and Delta, Folsom, and Vista Del Lago all tied for 3rd place.
Other schools at the Challenge were: Calaveras, John F. Kennedy, South Tahoe, Granada Hills Charter, Northern Summit Academy, Sequoia Grove Charter, Oak Ridge, and Ponderosa.
