The 2019 El Dorado Forestry Challenge event was held at Leoni Meadows in Grizzly Flats. One of the highlights for the 112 students who participated this year was the opportunity to collect data on an area in the Trestle Forest Health Project that has been commercially logged and masticated. By collecting information about the post-treatment conditions and running it through a computer program that simulates wildfires, students determined whether or not the treatment meets fire-safe goals for the Project.

The results below are out of a possible 250 points:

  • First Place: Foresthill High School Team 22, 224.3 points
  • Second Place: Folsom High School Team 21, 213.5 points
  • Third Place: El Dorado High School Team 29, 211.8 points
  • Fourth Place: Amador High School Team 17, 209.7 points
  • Fifth Place: Ponderosa High School Team 10, 208.7 points
